Sherman Elementary is committed to providing the highest quality of education to all students. In order to do so, we believe educators should be "Highly Qualified". A “Highly Qualified Teacher” is a term the No Child Left Behind Act uses for a teacher who demonstrates proficiency in the subjects he or she is teaching, has a college degree, and has met state certification requirements. Sherman Elementary is proud to announce that all staff are considered "Highly Qualified" for the 2013-2014 school year.
In addition to regular education, Sherman Elementary provides special services for disadvantaged learners. Parents of eligible students are encouraged to become involved in the organized, ongoing planning, review and improvement of the school’s Title I program efforts. Notification will be provided of meetings held to inform parents of participating students of the school’s participation in and requirements of Title I. Students of parents with questions should contact a building administrator or counselor.
The school will also provide parents, upon request, information regarding the professional qualifications of the student’s classroom teachers, including, at a minimum, the following:

The baccalaureate degree major of the teacher and any other graduate certification or degree held by the teacher, and the field of discipline of the certification or degree. 4. Whether the student is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications. 5. Information on the level of achievement of the parent’s student in each of the state academic assessments as required by law; and timely notice any time that the parent’s student has been assigned, or has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by, a teacher who is not highly qualified, as required by law. |

The Sherman Elementary School-Parent Compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards.
